When I became a parent, I realised I wasn't looking for a tidier home.

I was looking for a home that still felt like me. A home that embraced childhood
without losing the beauty and character I had always loved.

There's a small moment at the end of almost every day that I've come to treasure.
The children are asleep, I make myself a cup of tea, sit down on the sofa and, for just fifteen minutes or so, I can simply breathe.

It's in those quiet moments that I realised how much our surroundings
influence the way we experience everyday life.

That realisation became the starting point for Studio Jes Iken.

Not from the idea of designing children's furniture, but from the belief that family homes shouldn't have to choose between playfulness and aesthetics.

I wanted to create furniture that encourages creativity during the day, yet feels completely at home in a beautifully designed living space once the toys are put away.

Because I believe becoming a parent shouldn't mean letting go of the things that make you feel at home.

Making room for who they are

Children don't all grow up in the same way.

Some spend hours drawing. Others build imaginary worlds, collect tiny treasures, read quietly in a corner or constantly invent new games.

I don't believe creativity looks just one way.

What matters is that children feel free to discover who they are and feel proud of the things that make them different.

If my furniture can contribute, even in the smallest way, to creating spaces where children feel confident to explore, create and simply be themselves, then that's something I'll always be proud of.

Designed to stay

I also believe that good furniture should adapt as life changes.

Children grow. Families move. Homes evolve.

Instead of replacing a desk after a few years, you can simply fit taller legs. Fancy a completely different colour? A fresh coat of paint can give it an entirely new life.

Designing this way doesn't just reduce waste. It creates furniture that's meant to stay with your family for years, growing and changing alongside the life lived around it.

Crafted with care

Every Studio Jes Iken piece is handcrafted to order in my workshop in the Netherlands using carefully selected, responsibly sourced materials.

By making each piece only when it's ordered, I can focus on craftsmanship, minimise waste and create furniture that's made especially for its future home.

I hope my work brings a little more joy, creativity and inspiration into everyday family life.
